As summer winds down, so does the UV. Kids who spent all summer attempting to achieve the perfect tan are now disappointed that their hard work of lying out for hours in the sun and sleeping by the pool is starting to fade. Now, numerous teens are turning to artificial tanning. As the colder months approach, adolescents are turning to self-tanner. Yet, is the perfect bronzy complexion worth the skin damage? According to Happi, a media company dedicated to producing information on self-help and self-care, as of 2021, “60% of women in the United States use self-tanners frequently.” Happi also included, this number is set to increase dramatically by 2033. Unfortunately, most users lack an understanding of the risks of using this product. For instance, the majority of self-tanners contain carcinogens, an agent capable of causing cancer. Additionally, self-tanners can speed up sun damage. Applying these products once or twice cannot cause permanent issues; the real issue is when people apply it regularly.

As more and more aspects of our lives turn digital, so is education. In the earlier months of 2022, College Board, the company that creates and offers the commonly taken Advanced Placement, or AP, classes, announced that the standard SAT would be required to be taken online in 2024. This received many mixed reactions from students and educators, although the announcement was perhaps inevitable as technology has become increasingly intertwined in all aspects of our lives over recent years. The structures of these new tests are unfamiliar; while some are excited about the change, others are hesitant about what the change may mean. The SAT - now referred to as the Scholastic Assessment Test - is a test administered by the College Board that is commonly used by colleges when determining admissions. The SAT tests students on a wide variety of English and math skills, which were taught throughout their high school education. While the SAT is very popular, not many people know the specific purpose of the test. According to The Princeton Review, “The purpose of the SAT is to measure a high school student’s readiness for college, and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants.” Since the test gives an objective score, colleges have historically used this test to consider undergraduate admission. Our varsity teams' fall sports at Oyster Bay have concluded, bringing the end to an amazing season. The teams have been very successful this year, with most teams making the playoffs. While many players will be returning, the end of the season marks a bittersweet moment for our senior athletes. Here’s what they had to say about their experiences being a part of their teams: Marin Crabtree, Varsity Field Hockey “The field hockey team is like a huge group of sisters. The bond we have is like a bond I have never had on any team before. Each of us working to better ourselves for the team and everyone looking out for one another creates an amazing team! My favorite memory of my sport is deflection lines and when we all talk about our feelings.” Chris Tardugno, Varsity Cross Country & Varsity Track and Field “My favorite memory of my team was traveling upstate to compete in the state championship last season. What I love most about the team is how everyone pushes each other to become better in practice.” Olivia Gallo, Varsity Girls Tennis “I LOVE OB GIRLS TENNIS! I love the sisterhood that we have formed and how there is never any hate for each other, only positivity and love. I haven’t had this experience with any other team in my life, and I am so grateful to have been a part of this team for the past five years. All members of Oyster Bay girls tennis are going to forever slay!” By: Sophia Guerrero

Oyster Bay High School is a place for students to flourish both academically and athletically. The sense of community we house is simply unmatchable. Teammates quickly become friends and strong connections are formed within the athletic program we have here at Oyster Bay. It is quite a joyous experience to be part of that community, which makes it nearly impossible to walk away from it without a sense of sorrow. By: Sophia Guerrero
Information always seems to be a click away with the internet, but can that information always be trusted? Libraries are institutions where you can access centuries-worth of information. In addition to providing free access to a wealth of knowledge, libraries fulfill many other community needs, such as providing for the use of electronic devices and guidance in locating and organizing information with the help of a librarian. However, despite the efforts to modernize libraries to fit the needs of the 21st century citizen, data shows they do not seem to be getting the same usage as they once did. By: Khadeejah Memon
